Job Description:
This is a part-time, flexible position. Candidate would be able to work from home on their own laptop or desktop computer. The focus of this position would be media relations for the Heartland Region of the Arthritis Foundation. Tasks include writing volunteer bios in a media friendly way, pitching stories, writing press releases and calendar postings for special events within a six-state region, assisting with overall special event promotion, and supporting the Ad Council PSA project. Candidate would work closely with the VP of Communication for the Heartland Region and assist in day to day public relations tasks.
Qualifications:
- Background in public relations, communications or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years of media relations experience with documented evidence of results in generating media coverage and understanding how to mobilize the news media to tell an organization’s story.
- Previous work in a not-for-profit environment preferred.
- Excellent speaking and writing skills.
- Ability to manage and execute multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Sound judgment, persuasive, deadline oriented, flexible enough to adjust as new opportunities arise.
- Capable of crafting clear, compelling and consistent communications, then successful at ensuring the appropriate messengers use them effectively.
- Must be a self-starter who thrives in an empowered, fast-paced environment.
- Creative media planner who can build on long-standing events in a fresh new way.
- Computer literate, able to use Word, PowerPoint and other technologies to tell our stories.
